Event Details:
The City of Dieppe in collaboration with the Dieppe Military Veterans Association, will be holding a ceremony on Sunday, August 18, at Place 1604 to commemorate the 82nd anniversary of the Dieppe Raid.
The ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a military parade paying tribute to Canada's fallen soldiers.
The Dieppe Raid, carried out on August 19, 1942 in the port of Dieppe, France, was one of the most devastating and bloody chapters in Canadian military history. Of the 4,963 Canadian servicemen who left England to take part in the operation, only 2,210 returned, many of them wounded. Total losses were 3,367, including 916 dead and 1,946 prisoners of war. Those who fought in the Dieppe Raid were ordinary citizens who became heroes by defending the values we believe in as a nation: peace, freedom and justice.
The ceremony will be followed by a reception at the Dieppe Golden Age Club (445, avenue Acadie). In case of rain, the ceremony will take place at the Dieppe Golden Age Club at the same time.
